Well I came across something I never thought I'd ever find.......pictures of a partially filled Drennon Lake. These pictures came from an appraisal done in 1976 and the pictures are already captioned.
I'd previously blogged about the remnants of the dam before and for those of you new to the blog, read up about Drennon Lake and the old Little Shack on Barry Road.
I can also add this first picture to the other pictures I found where the Kansas City to St. Joseph Interurban Railroad crossed Barry Road.
In the next picture the Line Creek Trail would be at the far part of the picture.
In this picture the Line Creek Trail would be on the right side of the picture hugging the lake.
The cove mentioned in the next picture is the "thumb" of the lake where the Line Creek Trail veers east-west to get around the old lake.
From what I've been told by a handful of people the dam was breached and the lake went away with the Plaza flood of 1976. Fortunately the footprint of the lake remains and the Line Creek Trail gives folks the opportunity to use the lake access road.
