It's summer. It's been fun. I'm on blogger vacation but with all this chatter about parkway and boulevards going on I thought I'd share this 1928 concept rendering for the intersection of Paseo and Linwood.
I think it's the only intersection in Kansas City that has statued traffic signal in the middle of the intersection.
This plan would have made a "subway" for Paseo through traffic. Below is the section if one was on Linwood looking east and also if one was in a drone looking down on the intersection.
This is what a driver on Paseo would have seen as they crossed underneath Linwood.
The plan appears to have been sponsored by the Councilman for the area and prepared by an architect.

It was a big expensive design that never came to fruition probably because the cost to build the improvement made the project unfeasible and so it became just another urban intersection of four lane stroads.
Government has limited revenue just like a household budget. It's kind of hard to buy a condo on the beach when the paycheck only covers a raised ranch in the older 'burbs. America needs less asphalt and I'll use this as another opportunity to plug the guys and gals at Strongtowns.org for some weekend reading.
