Warning...I've had too many basketball games to referee this week, it's unbearably cold, and I'd rather be on the couch buried underneath some blankets with a toddler keeping me warm so buckle up and see if you can follow along an unproofed post....
Jerry LaMartina was nice enough to put up a story about a couple of upcoming public meetings next week and put a write up in the Star. I don't know if I ever followed up with a post from last year's federal funding grant opportunities but Platte County was able to secure a $2.5M federal grant to improve NW 72nd Street between I-29 and Overland Drive. As a result of that, a formal public hearing has to occur and that will be on Monday. Details are here:
Notice is hereby given to all interested persons that an open house public hearing will be held at English Landing Elementary School at 6500 Nw Klamm Drive in Kansas City, MO on Monday January 12, 2015, between 7p.m. and 8:30p.m.Central Time. Handicap access is available. All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard concerning their views on the location and design of NW 72nd Street between I-29 and N Polk Avenue with reference to the economic and social effects of such location and design, its impact of the environment and its consistency with the goals and objectives of the community. The presently contemplated improvement is as follows:
Reconstruction & upgrade of existing two lane NW 72nd Street between I-29 and North Polk Avenue. The proposed improvement will be a new three lane street similar to recent improvements to the west of I-29 and will include a sidewalk, a new roundabout at Overland Drive, and proper street lighting necessary for an urban area.
If you want to read up on the project, the grant application is still available and has some maps and pictures. The meeting was scheduled originally for the next door middle school earlier in the evening but that minor snow in December that caused a snow day caused a basketball game to be re-scheduled during that time to English Landing which isn't available until 7 which is why it's later during the football game. This is a joint project with KCMO where KCMO is paying and doing the design and right of way acquisition and Platte County is doing the construction using parts of the County's Road and Bridge sales tax. Here is the map that went with a notice to nearby residents.
Also, KCMO was able to secure a $2.75M federal grant to do the south side relocation of the outer road and do some work to add the second eastbound lane on 64th Street to finish paving what Platte County graded with the trail extension. KCMO also will be holding a public hearing with the details below:
Notice is hereby given to all interested persons that an open house public hearing will be held at Lakeview Middle School at 6720 NW 64th Street in Kansas City, MO on Wednesday January 14, 2015, between 5p.m. and 7p.m.Central Time. Handicap access is available. All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard concerning their views on the location and design of improvements to the I-29 and Route 45 interchange Phase 2 project with reference to the economic and social effects of such location and design, its impact of the environment and its consistency with the goals and objectives of the community. The presently contemplated improvement is as follows:
Relocation of the west outer road south of Route 45 and addition of eastbound thru lane on Route 45. The proposed relocated outer road will be a new two/three lane street and will include bike lanes and accommodations, a sidewalk, a new roundabout at N Chatham Drive, and proper street lighting necessary for an urban area.
The maps, plats, environmental documentation, and other detail information prepared by the City of Kansas City and Platte County will be available for public inspection and copying at the office of the Kansas City Public Works Department at 5300 Municipal Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64120. Written statements and exhibits as well as oral statements will be received at the hearing. Written statements and exhibits will be made a part of the public hearing transcript if received within ten days after the date of the hearing. Comments can be mailed or emailed to [email protected]
The format of the public hearing is an open house where displays will be available for view and representatives will be available to discuss tentative schedules for right of way acquisition and construction.
Any person with a disability who desires reasonable accommodation to attend this meeting may contact the City’s 311 Call Center at 311 or 816-513-1313, or for TTY, 816-513-1889, or by email at [email protected]
The Route 45/I-29 grant application is still available here and it has more pictures and details on the project. Here is where the new road will go. It's another partnership project funded by KCMO and a Transportation Development District formed by the owners of the Tremont Shopping Center which is where Hen HouseTM is located.
It's an open house public hearing so there is no formal presentation so feel free to show up at your convenience. I'll also point out that all the information on post could be found by being an informed citizen and why I do this hobby blog.
