I've been across the Mississippi River in Memphis a dozen times in life and I must say that they didn't leave any wiggle room when it came to bridge width on their highway bridges in AR/TN which is why I found this project they are undertaking very interesting.
If you have some time today, check out the old Harahan Bridge, it's alleged haunting, it's "strange room" and it's future.
Mike Baber does something that I would probably do if I lived near the bridge. Imagine driving a big old wide steel 1940's car boat on up and over that thing.
The Bridge even has its own YouTubeTM page with cool stuff like this.
It's all part of a big picture initiative to put trails on top of existing levees.
I've seen the levees along the Mississippi and they are high. If they can do it on that part of the River that drains half the country, I would think we could do that here (cough North Kansas City cough).
