For those of you Platte Countians who have figured out the best way to commute downtown is through KCK you're going to need to read up.
MoDOT and KDOT are replacing the old US 69 bridges with a brand new single bridge. They utilized design-build and selected a contracting team that is hosting an open house next week on Wednesday September 10 from 4-6 as shown below. The location is in the industrial park just south of Park Hill South High School specifically right here.
For those of you that like aerial comparisons the project website won't disappoint you. In all the pictures north (Missouri) is to the right, south (Kansas) is to the left, and the casino is in the bottom right corner.
Below is what it looks like today.
Below is what it will look like when done.
The website has a series of construction phasing diagrams but here is how all the parts will be put together. Basically one lane each way will be open at all times.
You can peruse (for those of you that went to Indiana University that means look) through all 13 pages of the construction phasing plans with more detailed notes by downloading them here.
One thing to note is that the project will include a bike/crossing which will connect our Platte County system to Kansas. As Wyandotte County continues to build out their trail system and open up their levees (cough...North Kansas City...cough...get with it...cough) that will make a better connection from downtown to this area via the Riverfront Heritage Trail in the West Bottoms.
One thing I don't like about the plan is the access to NB 69 and I-635 from Argosy Casino Parkway has been taken out. I don't know the reasoning but I'm sure there is a basis for it. It's not easy to get around Riverside because there are 4 freeways that cut up the town and this just puts up another barrier. Those of you that have basketball at the LEVO gym know what I am talking about. I might just start using the Line Creek Trail to get there since the trail is more direct than taking the highway and street system.
If you don't have anything to do next Wednesday stop by the meeting. It's an open house meeting so you come and go as you please. If there are any Park Hill South students interested in engineering or construction or computer drafting this is a free opportunity to spend some time with professionals in that field.
Setting up and putting on a public meeting takes a lot of time. I know that when I have them I'd rather have 100 people show up rather than 10 because the effort is the same and it's a great way to ask questions and learn more about construction and what is going on in your area.
