Ever wonder why bus ridership north of the river is low? Check out this stop on the 136 route.
How are you supposed to get on the bus? By leaving your nice home in Oakwood Forest or Line Creek Landing and walking through knee high grass and through a ditch to get to the bus stop.
It's going to be interesting to see how the region decides to prioritize and fund projects. The choice will be between complete streets project like this one and Waukomis Drive which provide 50+ year assets which make travel safer for all users (car, bus, bike, walkers) vs. competing with projects that have a shorter life span and won't be in service 365 days a year. Tough choices in a cash strapped transportation funding system.
I had to walk from the east side of US 169 to the west to take some pictures. People do it everyday as evidenced by the cow path and bike tracks left in the mud I snapped underneath the bridges.
It wasn't a pleasant walking experience with the limited sight lines caused by the approaches and traffic signal boxes, no ADA walk/ped signals, and vast amount of pavement. Luckily I have a vehicle. For those that don't, I really wish they had a better way to get to their work/school.
