Yesterday I went out and explored where the Kansas City-St. Joseph Interurban Railroad crossed the Missouri Route 152 Trail. Today I took the oldest three out to explore a little of the Line Creek Valley and get some pictures on the Interurban Railroad where it served as the dam for Drennon Lake (click the link for an old aerial of the lake).
I uploaded and tagged them in panoramio.com here. My goal for these efforts is to create a photo preservation before the area develops and destroys the history of the corridor.
This is looking east at the dam. The snow had started to seriously melt and getting up to the top was a muddy challenge (getting down was worse, wish I had a card board box to slide down). I am amazed that the steep and narrow dam held so much water.
The photo below is looking northwest where the dam part of the railbed stops. Drennon Lake would have been to the right and behind.
The picture below is from the same point looking southeast. All of this part of the railroad was the dam. Drennon Lake would have been to the left. The picture doesn't do justice but this provides an awesome overview of the beauty of the Line Creek Valley.
We reached the end of the dam where the breach occured. The railroad ran between the two blue lines. The Line Creek Trail generally follows the green lines if you can spot the break in the topography. The lake would have been to the left.
