Wouldn't it have been great to be able to just draw stuff like this that would impact the whole area using a crayon? I bet it was a lot more efficient and cheaper back in the old days using a drafting table and paper.
Preceding the 1947 Kansas City Highway Planning Map, this is a highway planning map from a 1945 study I found laying around. I am guessing that one of the first implementation phases of this plan was the I-35/Southwest Trafficway viaduct.
A zoomed in version of that map below. Check out the bridge at Paseo and Linwood, Gillham and 39th, and Paseo and Truman. Even 23rd Street wasn't built yet on the east side of town.
The study also had streetcar and trolley lines included in it.

Kind of interesting how 70 years ago, KCMO was planning a downtown loop like Chicago but never fully implemented it.
This gives me another excuse to watch one of my favorite Scooby Doo chase scenes without its own chase song.
