In case you haven't picked it up, I've got a litter of kids and not much time. I have some stuff compiled on the old Hannibal Bridge but haven't gotten around to writing about it. In the meantime, I found this old picture from the 1940's looking southwest from North KC/Harlem towards the West Bottoms/Kemper Arena. This is a rendering of the proposed Woodsweather Bridges which are now some 60 or so years old.
Check out the old 2nd Street railroad line and the industrial character of the area just 70 years ago including the original Intercity Viaduct.
It's hard to find pictures of the Hannibal with the bridge deck for automobiles on the top. Before the Broadway Bridge was built, this was the only way to get to the Downtown Airport.
I wonder if they had radios in cars in the 1940's and would sing this type of song when crossing the river?
