After over a year of being screwed around by one of our local Northland real estate and property management companies, Riverside finally secured the easements necessary to finish the Line Creek Trail down to Vivion Road. Clearing started yesterday. The trail will continue south from I-29 and stay on the west side of the creek and wind up down at Homestead Park by the Sonicâ„¢ and the new Vivion Road Bridge.
This is where the trail will be located about 500-700' south of I-29 and looking north.
The trail opens up about 1000' or so south of I-29 behind the cemetary along Gateway Drive. This picture is looking south.
The forest gets a little out of control with invasive honeysuckle and vines south of Mandan Drive but is right along the creek. At this point when we were verifying the survey stakes, it was hot, humid, and the mosquitos were the size of quarters so I didn't think to take many pictures as we were scurrying along.
I took the day off yesterday and was with all the kids so I didn't get a chance to get any construction pictures but hopefully will this weekend.
When this segment is done, the Line Creek Trail will be around 4.5 miles total from Vivion Road to Platte Brooke Drive.
Hi,
I walked down part of the new extension the other day and I came across an old playground. It was really overgrown. Do you know what that playground was for? Was there school near that site? Just curious.... great blog btw. I am a distance runner and new to the area... interested in the trail system in this part of Kansas City.
