Due to soccer games, I didn't get to tonight's school board meeting until 45 minutes in.
I don't think I missed much. Our staff does a great job and everyone is very important to the district. However, board meetings where a special program or coordinator spends a half hour to go over a powerpoint of the program drag these meetings on longer than they need to be. I am not sayting anything negative about the professional staff that was there tonight nor picking on them individually. It's just something I have noticed about how these meetings play out since I started attending regularly.
Everyone wants to justify their existence and tout their sucess or appearance of success but there is something to be said about just showing up and doing the job and getting results and being personally rewarded with the satisfaction of making someone's world a better place and no one knowing it but you.
When I sat down, the district health and wellness program coordinator talked about their efforts to help staff live healtier which reduces stress, health care costs, and absenteeism. The lead social worker for the district presented on her program's progress. The final item was a revision to the district's purchasing program which sounds interesting enough to read more about later. The meeting adjourned around 9:15.
