As I was sitting in the School Board board room tonight with 50-60 other folks tonight listening to the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning for those of you from Acme) system struggle with keeping the room at a decent temperature, I was thinking that it's too bad the Park Hill School District doesn't broadcast board meetings like Kansas City does so I could watch the meetings while I play NHL 94 in the basement with my kids on the old Sega Genesis. Luckily the boys are still young enough and don't realize how lame daddy is when he is reliving his childhood on 16-bit video game machines.
Just judging from the vote for the officers, this School Board is going to be an interesting train wreck to watch over the next year or so. I have the feeling our Board members might be singing some Johnny Cash.
It may get even more interesting as Board Member Rick Turley has his house on the market. The Platte County Assessor (who come January of 2013 probably will be the now retired board member David Cox-he of the one-term of one-year) shows that Mr. Turley owns a house in Riss Lake which Reese and Nichols has listed as MOVE IN READY. Good luck to Mr. Turley selling a house in this market. I'd be willing to make an offer (at 20% of asking price) but paying the HOA dues and taxes on it would make me very very ill. Plus I'd have to quit my day job or at least put on a charade to act like I was complying with a residency requirement. I don't think I am important or connected enough like some who have allegedly violated the residency requirement.
Could this be the second school board shake up first heard here?
Of course Parkville has some precedent and history of people serving on boards but not living in the district. Either way, for those of you who are super geeky like me will have something to do every other Thursday night.
Wes:
I greatly enjoy your writing style.

Are you really reliving your childhood, or are you just a confirmed tightwad? ;)
Are you home schooling your kids and not letting them talk to other children?
What are you going to do when your kids suddenly discover that you have been keeping them in trapped the last century?
If you want to further the illusion, I have a first generation 1976 Atari 2600 VCS and a first generation 1981 ColecoVision that I would let go of for a reasonable price.
How about a 1981 VIC-20, or a 1982 Commodore 64, "the single best-selling personal computer model of all-time?"
I could also make you a good deal on a 1985 Commodore 128, complete with original box and accessories.
Somewhere in the attic, I have a 1985 Apricot PC. It is based on Intel 8086 microprocessor. It runs at the blazingly fast speed of 4.77 MHz!
Additionally, I also have a early 1980s Packard Bell laptop. It is also an 8086. All of this equipment was in good working condition when I packed it up and put it away.
Do you remember when Bill Gates supposedly said, "640K is more memory than anyone will ever need on a computer?" All you need to do is to add some more vintage memory chips, and you are ready to go!
If the electrical grid goes down for an extended period of time, you would be all set when you hook some of these guys up to an old CRT and your emergency power generator. ;)
Sorry that I digressed from the real issue here, the Park Hill School Board. May they be blessed and always act in the absolute best interests of the patrons of the district, and not end up like the KCMO School Board!
We already have enough nominees for the "Greater Kansas City Hall of Shame!"
Sincerely,
Ken Eagle
