"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"--George Santayana
The neglected development project just south of Line Creek Elementary and on the northeast corner of Waukomis Drive and Englewood Road is coming back to life. The City's staff level Development Review Committee is going to be reviewing a proposed amendment to the development plan that was once approved as Parkway Oaks. The project involves 94 residential units. The previous plan approved 142 units so this is a reduction. However, the original plan had 29 townhouse/rowhouse buildings of which a couple were built. The new plan reduces that to only 9 and creates 28 duplex units.
It is eerily similar in layout to the multi-family complex that was built in the past 10 years on the northwest corner of 56th and Northwood Road and eerily similar in its proximity to a Park Hill Elementary School. Waukomis Drive will someday be upgraded to be Line Creek Parkway. Englewood Road is planned to become Englewood Boulevard someday.
Their intersection will be a focal point of two boulevards in Platte County and I wonder if this type of development is what George Kessler envisioned along Kansas City's Boulevard and Parkway System.
The proposed plan is attached below.
