I'm going to be brief with this endorsement because I have four kids without shirts jumping from couch to couch hyper as all get out in the other room and I should be in the middle of it so here it is. If I lived I the southern district, I would vote Andy Smith for Platte County Commission.
We need to pay our sheriff and the deputies more money. We need to pay our prosecutor and assistant prosecutors more. We don't need to eliminate the parks tax and transfer it all to do that and build a massive new jail but we don't need to keep it at a half cent once the YMCA community center bonds are paid off. We do need some capital funding to maintain what we've built but also to finish what we've started. Having that tax also lets County staff partner with the cities to pull in federal dollars that prior to the sales tax all seemed to wind up in Jackson County. If the federal government is going to piss money away, I'd like to get more back than what we send them. The past decade have been pretty amazing at the federal money the county has leveraged compared to population.
I know folks get envious of the palace Chris Koster built when he was in Cass County but just because that growing county decided to blow money on a facility doesn't mean we should.
Andy was going to run in the Republican primary but paperwork snafu kept him off the ballot so he's listed as an independent. Read his approach to dealing with the growth issues Platte County will be dealing with and how to wisely keep taxes at a reasonable level.
Since I live in the northern district, I will be voting John Fairfield for Platte County Commission. I've lived 5 houses away from John for the past 11 years. I first worked with John when he was a KCMO City Councilman. He worked to get the seed money to get NW 72nd Street, the US 169 interchanges, Tiffany Springs Aquatic Center, Barry Road, Line Creek Trail, etc all done. I'm sure some last minute nasty mailers are dropping tomorrow but I know John well enough to know he'll be reasonable when it comes to keeping taxes where they are while managing a growing county.
Now it's up to you folks. If you like what we have and what we've been doing, now is not the time to change course. You need to find the social media buttons at the bottom and like and SHARE this post with your social network.
You need to vote Andy Smith and John Fairfield for Platte County Commission.
After November 9, don't come crying to me when it all gets burned down. Phil Collins pretty much sums up my attitude about all things Platte County government at this point in life. I've got NW 72nd Street extended, Barry Road east of I-29 widened, and the Line Creek Trail. If you don't get engaged, that's not my fault if Northwood Road, Green Hills Road, etc don't ever get improved. I'll be too busy wrestling with the kids and enjoying life.
